I changed the font family of message posts to a mono-space. This is global until I can figure out how to modify the forum code to add a custom BBCode. This looked harder than it sounds the last time I researched the issue so I'm not guaranteeing when it might be accomplished.

Some of you might have noticed that the url for the forum has changed (again). I was forced to move to a new hosting site since the old one asked a bit too much for the basic service provided. I have found a new home for our forum and the transfer appears to have been successful.

On the positive side of this move, the new host allows me to turn on SSL so be sure to connect via https://.

I will also be looking at hosting our download section again since the current solution does not appear to handle high volume.

Please let me know of any issues.

Everything appears to have upgraded smoothly as this was mainly a bug/security fix. I also upgraded the reCAPTCHA plugin to see if that helps with some of the spam we've seen recently. Please continue to report posts that are not on topic.

#4 Re: Proclamations » Impending migration of nppagband.org » 2016-04-10 23:35:27

As you might have noticed, the forum was moved this afternoon. I expect the domain name to be restored soon as well as an improved download area. Please let me know of any outstanding issues. Some images may have lost their links.

The company hosting nppagband.org has informed me that they have scheduled a retirement of the server and service currently being used by the site.  This will impact both the archive and the forum.  In the next week or so you may experience some disruption on the website.  I will do my best to warn of any outages as possible and retain most if not all data during the migration.

#6 Re: Proclamations » Forum updated to 1.5.8 » 2015-03-12 17:31:10

I did a massive purge of un-verified users prior to today and removed the 60 or so who joined today. I left Fates alone since the email appeared legitimate.

The update completed without errors. Please report any issues. Additionally, I have added a reCaptcha plugin for registrations so those are re-opened.

#8 Re: Registration » Registration re-opened » 2015-03-12 13:17:15

Registration is re-opened. Hopefully the reCaptcha works better than before.

#9 Re: Registration » Registration re-opened » 2015-03-12 10:57:57

I've turned it back off. I don't think the 60+ registrations in just a few hours are people wanting to be here. I see there are some changes in the newer versions of FluxBB to help with this. I should be able to upgrade in a day or so.

#10 Re: Registration » Registration re-opened » 2015-03-12 10:48:36

I'll look to see if FluxBB offers improved registration plugins too.

Aside from some html validation issues the upgrade went smoothly. Please email me if you experience any issues.

For monster quests only, (not pit/nest quests, vault quests, or themed level quests), you can do a quick stair-scum (go down and then immediately back up the steps).  A new level will be generated, and any remaining unkilled monsters will be re-created.

Some spoilerish information on failing monster quests:  If you leave a monster quest level, on game turns equally divisible by 1200 (every 120 turns at normal player speed), if a one-in-20 test succeeds, you fail the quest.  So if you do have to go back to town, if you check your turn count, time things right, and be quick about it you have a good chance of getting back down to the quest level without failing.

It figures that they would post a new forum version just two days after I decide to update. Again, please let me know of any issues you encounter.

Easy and done.

The copyright date for Beta7 only includes (c) 2003-8. This probably should be updated.

Also thank you to Kurt for maintaining this site.  This is pretty much the homepage for NPPAngband now.

It has been my pleasure to host the forum in one form or another since version 1.1 (or was it version 2.0?). With version 5.0 almost final, I'm very interested in the direction 6.0 will lead especially with the new life shown in Vanilla Angband 3.1.x.

Oops! It seems that my domain transfer skills are not that great. This is surprising considering the number of times we've changed hosts in the history of this forum. I apologize for the outage the last few days. On the positive side, my SQL skills have improved to the point that I feel comfortable that I have transferred the content correctly. Please let me know of any issues.

Greetings! I have received the "OK" from Jeff to obtain the nppangband.org domain. The forum has been moved as of today to the new address http://forum.nppangband.org. Since you might notice the forum is on a sub-domain I am hoping to add a download and wiki sometime this next year. Please note, this change will most likely cause older links to break. Please notify me of any issues.

A new monster file has been uploaded to a temporary location. This can be renamed and copied over the existing monster.txt file in the latest revision.

I'm glad the time hounds have let you out of their evil clutches (you
don't look a day over 75).  It's a wonder thing to hear from you!

Thank you for the update Diego. I'm sure the rest of the community has appreciated your efforts in the development and fine-tuning of NPP. I wish you well in your life pursuits. While we wait for Jeff to return, TONPPAFS will continue on indefinitely.
