LOL.  No, it's legit.  I am not a good enough coder to do that even if I wanted to.

Re: 8.0.0 Beta 2 - be afraid, be very afraid :)

When trying to destroy artifacts, unidentified, you receive the msg:

You cannot destroy %s.

When using angband command set and trying to cast spells from book other than lowest in inventory the book chosen is ignored and still tries to cast out of lowest book.

aka m b i attempts to cast m a i.

If you use mouse and select book 2 it acts the same. You have to manually move the tab via '>' button.

Thanks!  I fixed the first one.

The second one, I can't recreate.  I fired up a wizard mode mage and gave him all the spellbooks, and it all worked fine.

When casting the spell, you are using the keyboard for all prompts, correct?

I'm only carrying 2 books, beginners and incantations, when I attempt satisfy hunger via keyboard typing m b a, I'm put into targetting mode for magic missile.

When hallucinating:

The stats panel monster list displays what you should see rather than the hallucinations in your line of sight which the map indicates.

OK, I can recreate it now.  Thanks.

Until I post an update, carrying a copy of conjuring and tricks fixes the problem.

Re: 8.0.0 Beta 2 - be afraid, be very afraid :)

Something strange with detect evil and very large groups of monsters, the monster list in stats panel seems to result in a rather large non scrolling window that you can move out of the visible region of, or if condition happens near the bottom of the dungeon level find the visible portion of the screen pushed up resulting in you not being able to see where to move, what's hitting you etc.

This may also result from large groups in LoS such as opening the door to a sleeping pit.

Re: 8.0.0 Beta 2 - be afraid, be very afraid :)

I just uploaded a new BETA-2 that fixes all of the bugs reported to date**, and also adds the first additional window, the visible monster list window.

**With the exception of the one right above this post.  I ran into that bug today as well.  What is happening is that when there are a lot of visible monsters, such as when you cast detect, the sidebar widget is automatically becoming longer to make room for all of the monster health bars, and it is expanding the main window right along with it.  The sidebar just needs to become a scrollable area when the list becomes long, rather than resizing the window.  I will re-post BETA-2 again when I figure out how to do this.

The visible monster window is already inside a scrollarea, so it does not have this problem.

Re: 8.0.0 Beta 2 - be afraid, be very afraid :)

Update - I just did a second upload of Beta-2 that fixes the scrollbar issue discussed above, with a small flaw.

The only quirk is that the player has to manually adjust the width of the sidebar when they open the game, or if they change the sidebar font.  It used to do this automatically, but scrollable areas do not automatically resize when the window is adjusted.  For the moment, though, that is better than having the whole screen blow up when the player casts detect.

Also, when there are too many visible monsters to fit the health status in the visible part of the sidebar, you can use the mouse wheel (or click and drag) to scroll the sidebar up and down to see the health status of all the monsters.

Hopefully that remaining quirk can be fixed by the next update.

Re: 8.0.0 Beta 2 - be afraid, be very afraid :)

Not a really a bug but I have noticed that running movement is a lot slower in 8.0.0. I am just guessing but I suspect its due to redrawing the whole map rather than just the visible portion. If you just 'walk' yourself there doesn't seem to be the same lag.

One bug I have seen, this might be due to using angband command set is being asked twice for targetting mode information.

Re: 8.0.0 Beta 2 - be afraid, be very afraid :)

Interesting.  Other people are complaining that running is instant, and looks like teleporting.  They are asking for a delay.  Are you running by mouseclick, or direction?

One problem I had, and I am wondering if you have seen the same thing, is the game becomes slow when there are a lot of spellcasters nearby.  In wizard mode I cleared out a Giant pit full of all spellcasters at level 98.  At first, there was a delay of 2-3 seconds per move.  When I got the pit down to about 15 creatures, it slowly got better.

By direction mouse movement is off, via . <direction>. I think it might be monsters, was a quest lvl with 170+ cave dwellers to deal with.

Just had a debug window pop up saying process_player_energy is calling itself indirectly.

Lvl 1 gnome brigand, just starting out on its first drop into the dungeon.

Thank you.  What was the command you entered?

How are you using mouse movement?  And how is it going wrong?

Re: 8.0.0 Beta 2 - be afraid, be very afraid :)

Sorry restating:

Lag in running, situation was running via . numpad direction. I was dealing with a quest level, I believe I was looking at 170+ mobs left to kill and running was painfully slow. As stated afterwards I concured with you that delay was likely related to all the monster movements it was doing before redraw. I was just astonded at how much slower things were vs previous 7.1.0.

As for the debug window popping up I don't know what command I'd run before that, will attempt to recreate and post better details.

I think I broke something when I redid the sidebar.  It might be updating after every single visible monster is processed.  I will find and fix.

I am pretty sure I fixed this.  The sidebar was being redrawn a couple times each game turn (or, about 25 times per player turn at normal speed).  I will test.  I should be releasing beta-3 in the next day or two.

Update:  This is definitely fixed.  Lots of things were being redrawn a couple dozen times every player turn.  Just a case of a missing flag on a single line of code.
