Priest in Progress

Decided to post my current Dwarf Priest.

I'm currently on dlvl 50 trying to find a bit more speed so I can take on Fundin. I rejected a quest for Evil Iggy. He's way too dangerous when he has a speed advantage on you. Fundin will be a slugging match... My favorite kind of fight. smile

Quite a lucky character in every other respect except stat bonuses other than WIS and Speed. I never get an even spread with Randarts. I accidentally took randarts, was supposed to take regular artifacts.

So far the changes to the Priest spells seem good. More variety, less power. Dwarf Priest is still the easiest character to do well with for experienced players, despite a slight tone down of power.

Re: Priest in Progress

Updated dump.

Trying to find some !oResistance for the next quest. Great Chromatics are third most dangerous D in the game after Great Power and Great Time. Still, they give good loot.

Re: Priest in Progress

I really like the way you document your game, not only can readers learn from it
but you probably learn yourself as well; e.g. tactics to use for later games.
I've started doing that myself; but need to improve my notes
http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=8108

|   151258|    13 | 22  | Quest: Cleared out a creeping coin nest.

How did you do that as such early levels? lucky !speed finds?
I find coin nest almost impossible due to their speed.

|   337095|    34 | 31  | Quest: Killed 19 Mature bronze dragons
|   337365|    34 | 31  | Managed 19 Mature Bronzes without RES_CONF, and 14
|  continued...   |     |  CCW

Thats really impressive. Care to eloborate?

|   411113|  Town | 31  | Amulet of Wisdom +6 in the black market!
|   411143|  Town | 31  | at a 40% discount too.
|   411203|  Town | 31  | 0% fail rate for Heal, even with a non-blessed
|  continued...   |     |  weapon

Are these rare? I had 2 in my last game.

|   533673|    51 | 39  | Killed Shelob, Spider of Darkness
|   535882|    51 | 39  | Destroyed Ariel, Queen of Air

Whats the difference between "Killed" and "Destroyed" ?

Re: Priest in Progress

A general way to approach Coin Pits/Nests is to collect potions of neutralise poison and Cure Criticals and buy 1 or more staves of Teleport. Then get Treasure Detection and Door detection. Use the information from the scroll/spells/staves to engage them piecemeal and when HP gets low, Teleport to safety, cure poison, rest and repeat. With warriors, I rarely have the patience for Teleporting around, so I just fight them in groups of 5-15, quaffing whatever, in between groups. Teleporting around would be more cost effective, though. I'm pretty loose with my inventory in the early game when it comess to avoiding boredom.

I managed the Mature Bronze Dragons by careful use of the 5 speed potions I had, Orb of Draining (staying around corners to keep out of their line of sight) and isolating them. Once I got them low enough on health I could melee their last two stars of health even while confused.

Not scumming dlvl 1 for more !oSpeed is another example of me taking risks because of boredom.

Amulets of Wisdom turn up every now and then, but having +6 on them is rare, especially in the Black Market.

Shelob is a "she", so she is killed.

Ariel is an "it", so she is destroyed.

Elementals, Golems, Vortices and Undead (and a few other things, I think) are not considered living beings, so they can't die. The are destroyed. smile

Re: Priest in Progress

Death by boredom.

Got careless while fighting 17 Greater Balrogs. Forgot to keep track of my speed. Too used to having +20 or more speed on dlvl 70+ like I always do with standard artifacts. Damn randarts, always insufficient with either speed or stat bonuses.

Haste ran out. Double Plasma Bolt => death. Ooops. Oh well, back to paladins.

I just finished a coin stronghold http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=8110 wich proved ludicurously easy with Nimtanch.
I tried a staff of treasure detection, but that didnt detect the coin mimics.
Nor should it, should it? tongue

I got a bit overboard with notes taking, but im gonna keep doing that until I die.

How do you update a ladder dump btw? or do I have to post another?

Re: Priest in Progress

You just post the same file again, it will replace the old one.

BTW I found stronghold quest levels so large, that even if they're ridiculously lucrative wrt drops, I will not be taking them because of sheer boredom of whacking the same monster 250 times.

I agree. 90 monsters squeezed into tiny rectangular rooms will do just fine.

Re: Priest in Progress

Treasure Detection works on pits. I haven't tried strongholds in such a long time that I didn't even know that Treasure Detection doesn't work there.
