my first succesfull brigand

Inspired by posts here, I wanted to try brigands.
I find setting traps is mildy useful for pits, and gets less and less useful as game progresses. Stealing I havent been bothered with.

Current dump:

http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=8185

just killed Eol, the Dark Elf, for the first time ever.

Re: my first succesfull brigand

oooh, just found a ring of speed +6, I guess its wise to wear this instead of the damage ring? bumps me up to +12 natural speed.

edit: updated the dump a bit, wearing speed ring, and a pretty good slaying ring. I feel I got enough HPs.
edit2: found a +10 speed ring, so together with my +6 ring, I would get +22 natural speed. Do I get extra turns for +22 in comparison to +16?
edit3: found this:
b) The Long Bow of Bard (x3) (+17,+19) (+2)
It increases your dexterity by 2.  It increases your speed
and shooting power by 2.  It grants you immunity to paralysis.
It cannot be harmed by the elements.
It was conjured forth by magic on dungeon level 58.

It only gives me 1 shot per turn? Yet it says "increases shooting power by 2"

this:

b) a Sling of Buckland (x2) (+14,+18) (+1)
It increases your dexterity by 1.  It increases your shooting
speed and shooting power by 1.  It cannot be harmed by acid
   or fire.

Gives me 3 shots per turn. I know I get 1 free because of class (brigand), and I thought the other extra come because of "shooting power by 1".

So why do I only get 1/turn with Bard?

Re: my first succesfull brigand

Looks like you have a nice char going there Warlin.

Shooting speed and shooting power are different things. Once increases damage, the other increases number of shots. I would probably stick with Bard for now, but keep Buckland handy. Bard gives you speed and extra dex, which might mean extra blows in melee.

Re: my first succesfull brigand

ah that explains the bow issue.
However If you read rest of post, you see im up to +22 natural speed, so an extra 2 from Bard, is not that big a deal. For now im sticking with sling

Re: my first succesfull brigand

Shooting power adds to the multiplier for ranged weapons. If you have a (x2) weapon with a shooting power of 1 then it acts like a (x3) weapon. So the base damage of the Bard is 5 x 19 and the Sling is 3 x 18. But the Sling is able to shoot three times as fast as the Bard so you're probably better off with it.
