NPP 32x32 tileset on the way

About a week ago I started working with Buzzkill (from .oook) to create a complete NPP tileset (unique tile for every object, terrain, monster, player character, and effect).  It is based on the dvg 32x32 tileset in Angband.  I am working on creating new monster/player tiles that are mostly derivitive (cut-and-paste mashups) of the DVG tiles, and buzzkill has drawn many or other games that we are including as well.  Buzzkill is drawing all of the NPP terrain tiles, and they look pretty good.

I know there are a couple major bugs that I introduced with the new mouse support, and I will work to fix those as well.  But this is kind of a major project and great opportunity to get an complete NPP tileset, and I am very grateful to Buzzkill for working on this, so I am giving this top priority.  I also resolve to keep this tileset complete in the future, now that I understand how to draw the tiles and include them in the game.  I might actually start playing with tiles, after almost 25 years of being a die-hard ASCII-only player.

Shockbolt (from oook) also started a 64x64 tileset for NPP, but he is either taking a well deserved break or he moved onto other things.  If he comes ever completes it, I will include that as well.  His artwork is stunning, and that would be a major leap forwards in the appearance of the game.

Sounds good!

Tiles really add to the atmosphere of the game. I made the switch from ASCII to tile graphics about a decade ago, and haven't been able to go back since.

Could you please continue to support the Old Tiles mode in any graphics updates?

The other two sets are incomplete, aren't they?  I will say the 32x32 set will be the only one I will maintain.  If somebody provides a complete NPP tileset for either of the other two, I will keep that one current as well.  But updating the Angband tilesets to be complete with NPP is *alot* of work. We are probably talking about 250 tiles to be drawn, averaging 20-25 minutes per tile.  I do not have the bandwidth to update all three of them.

I'm not talking about updating the tile images, just continuing to support the Old Tiles format so players can still use them if they want. I think there are still many unused glyphs in the tile set, so I can map new features to them if needed.

I will absolutely continue to support the other two tilesets, and I would welcome any updated mapping or images.

We are still plugging away.  I think we are about 75% done.  Then I will clean up all the little issues that have popped up in the last couple weeks.

How's the tileset coming along?  I can't wait to see what you've come up with...  Waiting on my next playthrough for it, heh.

It is done, and is in the NPP 0.5.4. final release.
