Quest status indicator

Hi,

I still think it would be really handy to have a quest status indicator always visible on the main display. This would only require a few chars' worth of space, eg:

Q: j=13 (1750)
might indicate that there are 13 'j's to kill on level 1750 to complete the quest,

Q: ? (1400)
might indicate that the player must find a sword at level 1400,

*Q*
might indicate that the quest has been completed, etc.

I think I would have to disagree sad

All we have to do to get quest status is press control-Q, and I like an uncluttered display area.
However  I would like info for all Quests including current posted in the player knowledge-base!

Re: Quest status indicator

It could be an option, or it could be added as a feature of the "monster list" terminal window.

I just failed a pit quest because one of the pit mosters blinked while I did not see him due to my Poison Cloud. For some reason it never came back to attack me while I ID'd the loot in the pit and recalled out.

Alternatively like stairs, Recall and Teleport level could ask for a confirmation while a quest is still unfinished.

Re: Quest status indicator

Thought I'd resurrect this topic from the grave before the next beta is released.

Any chance of using up a few characters on the main display to show a quest indicator that activates when a quest level is entered and counts down the number of creatures left to kill, eg.
Q:95     for 95 remaining creatures (pit)
Q:230    for 230 remaining creatures (stronghold)
Q:[      for armour type vault item
  Q!       for quest completed
  q        for quest failed

This would immediately answer the most important quest-related questions for the player:
- Am I on a quest level?
- How many quest monsters are left?
- Have I got the quest item?

As ramela suggests, this could be an option that those who want their main display as uncluttered as possible can turn off (although the indicator would only show while on a quest level).

Re: Quest status indicator

Where on the screen would you place this?

Oh and I'd suggest Qx for failed quest.

Anywhere that there are five chars that are never used. I use double monitors so see hundreds of unused chars down the left and along the bottom of main window - the position should probably be chosen by someone who uses a minimal display.

There appears to be room above the "LEVEL" value, unless some class ratings extend that far? Also, there appears to be room for five chars along the bottom row of the main window, even with minimal display.

As I say this would be best as an option (default off) and people who don't like it need never know it exists.

Re: Quest status indicator

How about replacing the dlvl indicator (bottom right) with the quest indicator?
Only in quest levels of course. We can also show the indicator in other levels for some fixed amount of turns after failing the quest.

Re: Quest status indicator

Can we get the lvl in feet as well? Now I don't see which level I'm on, just the number of quest monsters to kill.

(see first post)

Re: Quest status indicator

Press Ctrl+Q and the quest message will tell you which dungeon level you're on.

Re: Quest status indicator

Would it be okay to make it an option?
